Install the Kalc add-in
Kalc runs as a modern Excel task pane on Mac and Windows (Excel 365). The private beta is invitation only — install commands and downloads are not published here.
Start here — your personal install link
If you are an invited beta tester, your invite email includes a personal install link. Open that link in your browser, choose Mac or Windows, and follow the step-by-step guide there (~5 minutes). That page includes everything you need to download and run the installer.
Do not share your link. It is tied to your invite. If you cannot find the email, contact support@kalc.tech and we will resend it.
This public page is a reference after install — configure Settings, open Kalc in Excel, and troubleshoot. It does not replace your personal link.
Prerequisites
- Microsoft Excel 365 (current channel)
- Network access to Kalc services
- Personal install link from your invite email
- API key (separate email) — paste in Settings after install
After install — open Kalc in Excel
Once you have run the installer from your personal link, quit Excel completely and reopen a workbook.
Mac
- Home → Add-ins → Developer Add-ins → Kalc
Sideloaded add-ins do not appear under Insert → My Add-ins on Mac — use Developer Add-ins. A ribbon button on the Add-ins tab is not expected during the beta sideload.
Windows
- Home → Add-ins → Advanced → SHARED FOLDER → Kalc → Add
Configure (both platforms)
- In the Kalc task pane, open Settings.
- API URL:
https://api.kalc.tech - API key: paste the key from your separate welcome email.
- Save, then continue with your first analysis.
Zero Retention
For client-confidential models, turn on Zero Retention in Settings before you run. The uploaded file is deleted after analysis and nothing identifying is kept. Details are in the Privacy Notice.
Workspace portal (optional)
Sign in at workspace.kalc.tech to track model versions and analysis history.
Windows fallback — classic VBA add-in
Only if your IT blocks modern Excel add-ins. Email support@kalc.tech before using this route — we will send credentials and verification details privately.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | What to try |
|---|---|
| Cannot find install instructions | Use the personal link in your invite email — not this page. Email support@kalc.tech for a resend. |
| Install link shows “Invitation only” | You need the exact URL from your invite. Generic visits to the beta portal are blocked by design. |
| Kalc not in My Add-ins (Mac) | Expected — open from Home → Add-ins → Developer Add-ins. |
| No ribbon button | Expected on sideload — open Kalc from the task pane. |
| Add-in Error / manifest no longer available (Mac) | Re-run install from your personal link (the Mac guide includes a cache-reset option). ⌘Q Excel, reopen. |
| Add-in will not connect | Confirm API URL is https://api.kalc.tech and your beta key is pasted correctly. |
| Still stuck | Support · support@kalc.tech (within 2 business days, CET). |
